Meet Carly and Kasey

One of the best parts about eloping is that you get to have a unique experience with your partner that you may not have had otherwise.

Why not take full advantage of this opportunity with something totally unforgettable for your elopement? We’re sharing a list of our favorite wedding elopement ideas that will make yours one of a kind.

Simple elopement ceremony ideas

Here we’ve listed a few elopement ceremony and celebration ideas that are perfect for the low-key couple who want a simple, but memorable elopement.

In a nearby garden

Whether it’s at your city’s local botanical garden or in a nearby wildflower meadow, the lush surroundings of a garden elopement will be stunning. Not only will the outdoor setting feel refreshing, but all of the floral decor will be perfectly arranged by nature itself.

After your ceremony, surrounded by flowers, have a small picnic to celebrate the occasion. Ask your elopement photographer or planner for local recommendations of services that will set up an all-inclusive picnic for your elopement — complete with romantic decor, a planned menu, and even champagne too.

Drive up to a lookout point

If you love the idea of incredible views without the hiking, an easily accessible lookout point is the perfect place to have your elopement. Whether it is at a state park a short drive away or a national park a few states over, many locations have scenic viewpoints where you can simply park your car and soak up the views a few steps away.

In the city

For the big-city couples, a night on the town might be the ideal evening for your elopement. Find an iconic landmark to host your ceremony — whether it is the historic town hall or the beautiful public art installation — then spend the evening celebrating in the city’s unique flavor. If you choose New York City, maybe you and your new spouse tour all of the sights after a morning ceremony. Or choose to dance the night away to live music after a short and sweet ceremony at one of Las Vegas’s iconic drive-thru chapels.

At the beach

From the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, to the moody fog of the Pacific Northwest, to the black sand beaches in Hawaii — a sunset beach ceremony is a classic choice for a reason. The views are guaranteed to be beautiful, and the relaxed atmosphere is practically a built-in feature of any seaside town you stay in. Spend a week at your favorite beach town and soak up the newlywed bliss with a honeymoon that starts as soon as your ceremony is over.

Adventurous + unique elopement ideas

These options are equally as non-traditional, but require a touch more planning and coordination. But don’t worry, the resulting experience will be completely worth it.

Take a helicopter ride to a glacier

This would undoubtedly be one of the most unique options. Imagine: stepping into a helicopter with the love of your life to reach a remote glacial landscape. Although the views were incredible on your way there, nothing compares to the glittering surface of the ice as you stand together and exchange your vows.

The most iconic glacier helicopter tours are in Alaska where you’ll be immersed in the untamed nature and incredible landscape.

Hike through a national park

Whether it’s a short 2-mile round trip, or a multi-day hiking excursion, hiking through the national parks for your elopement is a great option for those who prefer the hushing peace of nature. Spending this time quietly soaking up the sights and sounds of the natural landscape will feel completely different when on the way to committing to a life together. You can learn more important tips about national park elopements on our blog.

Travel to your dream destination

From the crystal blue coast of Santorini to the cozy feel of Scandinavian towns — spending a week (or more!) exploring your dream destination is a great way to combine adventure with relaxation. Our recommendation? Have your ceremony early on in your trip, and use the rest of the time as your honeymoon. We can’t think of a more serene way to kick off a marriage.

Tie the knot at sea

For some, the call of the ocean is undeniable. And we understand — the endless horizon, the salty air, the gentle mist that cools you. Many coastal towns will have boat charter companies that can curate an entire experience for you on the water. Think: exchanging your vows on a luxurious yacht or quaint sailboat, the flow of sparkling champagne between just the two of you, and your first dance under the stars.

More elopement ideas

  • Canoeing or Fishing. If you two prefer to spend your time quietly enjoying nature, this is a great option. Your elopement can be anything you love to do, and it doesn’t have to be over the top if that’s not true to you.
  • Getting ready together. This is such an intimate and special way to be able to spend the entire day together. Why not kick off your elopement with your best friend and soon-to-be-spouse?
  • Bring your dog along. Check if your chosen location allows furry family members. In some states like Colorado, they can even be a witness or officiant to your wedding!
